What inspires me the most?

What inspires me the most?

So I’ve had a good dose of writer’s block on choosing the topic for the March newsletter. Night after night I hopped around the net and flicked through magazines but no ‘eureka’ moment came. I called my sister Georgie for a brainstorm and she said ‘what inspires you?’ Well, that was easy, I could think of an endless list of things that inspire me in my life – and there it was, the topic for the March newsletter. A bit of a personal one for the blog this week….what’s inspiring me this month.

What inspires me the most?
What inspires me every day (not just in March :)) is nourishing my beautiful family, friends and hopefully nourishing my followers in some way. This is my inspiration and my passion and it is something I think about everything I cook, share and consume.

While I was recently pregnant, every time I ate I thought about feeding my unborn baby and now that I’m breastfeeding, at the forefront of my mind is “will this nourish my baby?” (perhaps this is why I have a super-sized baby :)). When I cook each meal at home (which is often a tedious affair with a 2-year-old) I am always thinking “how will this nourish her body?” or “how will this help keep my husband healthy and in my life as long as possible?”.

To take it to the next level, this is also why I started the Nourishing Hub – to make healthy products, recipes, and information available to everyone, and hopefully extend someone’s life for just that little bit longer. Recently a friend called me altruistic – concerned for other people’s welfare. Perhaps this is true but a part of my motivation is selfish: I want my family, friends and you in my life and I am a great believer that this can be achieved through optimal health.

Inspiring Reading
I have only recently discovered the inspiring Renegade Collective Magazine and can honestly say I am completely hooked. From cover to cover there are wonderful stories about people’s inspiring journeys, uplifting quotes and insightful articles. You can pick up the one year anniversary copy at most newsagents – this month Collective magazine turns one!

For a complete inspiration overload read it with one of the Nourishing Hub’s Yogi Tea’s, which come complete with an inspiring message on each serve!

Inspiring Blogs and Websites
Natural New Age Mum – I have only recently discovered this wonderful resource. I’m clearly a bit slow off the mark, as Sonia who is the Natural New Age Mumma, has a huge following of loyal readers. The Natural New Age Mum provides excellent articles, recipes and healthy inspiration for all your natural new age Mums (and Dads) out there.

The Wellness Project – Claire Obead is a health coach and yoga teacher who wants to change the way people feel and experience life. I am currently following Claire’s 21 Day Meditation Project, which is an amazing way to inspire yourself to get your daily meditation in. Every day a new guided meditation is sent straight to your inbox, just press play and meditate away – love it!

My New Roots – While in New Zealand, a lovely friend Pip introduced me to this website and in particular to a recipe called Life Changing Bread! How can you go wrong with a name like this!

Inspiring People
I recently attended a Conscious Club event (which is always an inspiring evening) and I was blown away by the guest speaker Sebastian Terry, who spoke about his bucket list of 100 things he wanted to do in life and his journey to achieve them. Seb’s journey has evolved from achieving his own bucket list to helping others all over the world achieve theirs. The question he asks is “what steps are you taking right now that will allow you to achieve your dreams or help someone else do the same”. Inspired? Check out his website and you will be www.100things.com.au.

Inspiring New Products
When choosing new products for the Nourishing Hub, I have to be inspired by them – I have to want to try them and share them with you. So here a couple of newbies to try.

Eco Drinking Straws – reusable stainless steel drinking straws. BPA Free, reusable and recyclable. They are easy to clean and come with a bonus cleaning brush. Perfect for all of you coconut drinkers out there. I’ve also been using them for my smoothies each morning.

Internal Plumber Products – love these products! Developed by two cool guys (Peter and Justin) who wanted to combine Chinese Medicine and Fossil Shell flour to create three amazing formulas. They have a digestion formula, a slimming formula and a skin formula – all of which come with glowing testimonials. Want to know more? Watch this space for an interview with the Internal Plumbers or read about the product here!

An inspiring place to be
Earlier this year I went back to my family home on Waiheke Island in New Zealand, the place I grew up and where my parents still live. On this trip particularly, I felt inspired on so many levels. Perhaps it’s because so many of the things I try so hard to incorporate into my life here in Sydney were all right on my doorstep at home.

A few goodies from my parent’s garden.

In Sydney I hunt out every possible farmers market there is and drag my poor husband around to all of them (he jokes I must have a degree in marketing by now). While back at home I walked out the door and was greeted by a garden exploding with organic greens and seasonal vegetables and a brood of chooks laying supercharged organic eggs. I felt so inspired to use this fresh, living food in every meal, knowing it was so full of energy and grown with love. Check out my Macadamia Nut Pesto recipe – with fresh basil from the garden.
