It’s just a couple of days until the doors close to my 12-Week Group Coaching program. This is a sliding door moment where we get to choose to stay where we are and work it out on our own, or lean in, allow ourselves to be supported and guided, and do the deeper work to get bigger results.
This morning, as I stood at the water’s edge at 7 am, with the water temperature a balmy 13°C, I felt polarised by one part of me wanting to lean into the discomfort of a swim, knowing the reward it would bring, and the other part wanting to go back to the comfort of the car and head home.
As a coach and an IFS practitioner, I often see a similar hesitation when people are standing on the brink of their own personal growth and healing. One part of you is eager to embrace change, while another part feels it's too risky or overwhelming.
In this episode, we explore the four main reasons people resist deeper healing work, even when they recognise its importance. We discuss the discomfort of confronting past pain, the allure of staying in familiar patterns, the subtle payoffs of avoiding change, and the deep-seated belief of unworthiness that often hinders self-investment.
If you are on the fence about doing the deeper work, know that the anticipation and fear we feel about what we might uncover are always worse than feeling the feelings we are trying to avoid.
Tune in and listen, or watch below, as we unpack these common roadblocks and provide a compassionate approach to help you move from feeling stuck to living with purpose and joy. Let's dive into this transformative journey together!
