Many of us are led to believe that successful people have an advantage, that they are either smarter, luckier, work harder, have money, or had a really good idea.
This may be true in some instances but more often people are successful because they have embedded really effective daily habits into their lives and practiced them with consistency.
Practicing small regular habits every day, that move you towards your desired outcome, is key to getting results in your life.
To understand what daily action we need to take, we must first be clear on what we want to feel, achieve or receive in life (your definition of success). Steven Covey famously said ‘begin with the end in mind’ – first we set goals for ourselves and then break them down in smaller more achievable parts.
For example, if you want to run a marathon, you don’t start with running 42 kms, you start with small consistent runs that build up over time. My friend was telling me about the nike app that actually maps that out for you and helps you create a consistent training program broken into smaller parts (genius).
Why do you more than 90% of New Years Resolutions fail? Because people don’t have daily habits and systems place. It is not setting the goal that will make you successful, it is the daily practices you put in place that will have the biggest impact. As habits expert James Clear says ‘you don’t rise to the level of your goals, you fall to the level of your systems’.
If you want to be successful in life (whatever that looks like to you) then focus on daily habits that make you better every day. Yes, it takes time, but by doing so you will start to build a trajectory towards your goal and every action you take will compound, like interest in the bank, bringing you to a very rewarding outcome.
Many of the daily habits I teach are like an investment. Your time is the currency and each day you are investing in yourself you are building your own personal success portfolio. If you do this on a regular basis there is no doubt you will reap the rewards of your investment as it grows over time.
